Worldpackers was born from two friends, Riq and Eric, who abandoned traditional careers to follow their passion for travel and meaningful connections.

Inspired by their own experiences exchanging skills for accommodation around the world, they built the first version of Worldpackers while living in a van—proving that great things can come from unconventional beginnings.

Today, Worldpackers is a global community with millions of travelers and hosts, united by the belief that travel should be accessible to everyone.

A Brief History of Worldpackers

2013-2014

Worlpackers founded

Worldpackers is founded by passionate travelers who believe collaboration can make travel more accessible, affordable, and meaningful.

2015-2017

We grow

The platform grows rapidly, first across Latin America and then expanding to hosts and volunteers worldwide.

2018-2019

We improve

Focus shifts to safety, quality, and support. Stronger community guidelines and a robust review system are introduced to ensure trust and accountability.

2020-2021

Work from anywhere

Remote work becomes the standard. The Worldpackers team embraces a fully distributed model, with collaborators spread across multiple countries.

2024

New product

Launch of Epic Trips, a new product offering curated group travel experiences that combine cultural immersion, adventure, and community. Designed as a premium complement to volunteering opportunities, Epic Trips mark a new chapter in Worldpackers’ mission.

2025

Contents

Debut of PODpackers, the official Worldpackers podcast. This new channel shares inspiring stories, travel tips, and behind-the-scenes insights from our global community.
